Sports have always been a BIG part of my life. When I was little my parents put me into many different sports so I could choose what I wanted to do. I ultimately chose swimming and it became my life as early as middle school. I started swimming when I was about 5 so I was a competitive swimmer for almost 17 years of my life - swimming at Texas A&M and even making it to the Olympic Trails.
Besides swimming, Football is my other love! One of my favorite memories from growing up was from the night the Tennessee Volunteers won the 1998 BCS Championship. It was a school night and I was only 13 so my mom didn't want me staying up for it. At half time my dad came into my room and woke me up and told me to be quiet and come to the bonusroom. He had a little tailgate all set up - chips, snacks, Sprite, Orange Soda and a football. I was the happiest little girl ever! We watched the Volunteers beat Florida State 23-16 and were yelling and hollering at the TV to the point it woke up my mom. She came in asking what I was doing up and I'll never forget it my dad hollered back: "Ileana we'll talk about it later - the Volunteers are going to win the National Title!"
I grew up in Tennessee and my dad wanted us, well mostly me to be a fan of my home state. We always watched the games and he taught me all about football. I even looked at Tennessee when I was being recruited to swim at college but ultimately decided on Texas A&M. Now you wanna talk about an amazing atmosphere - Kyle Field, HECK College Station on a Saturday game day is electrifying. I never missed a game during my undergrad years except if we were away for a swim meet - they were are blast!
Fall/ winter is my favorite time of the year strictly based on that it's Football season! In fact, when my husband and I were deciding on a date to get married, we knew Aug-March was out of the question and even looked at the NCAA basketball championship dates to make sure we wouldn't miss any important sporting event! Yup we are that crazy!
Well below are posts about swimming, football and really anything sports related. I'm learning about soccer too since my husband is a die-heart soccer fan. Enjoy!
